For those of us that come from quite humble beginnings, in early life, we often don't get many opportunities to experience things that expand our perspective and encourage high aspirations.
As we come of age, the lack of exposure we may have had to different things can start to rear its head in many unfruitful ways. These unfruitful seeds can lead to feeling like 'Something isn't meant for someone like you' or being too apprehensive to even attempt something new because it's 'Completely alien' to you.
I feel these seeds can often seep through to later adulthood, where you may experience things like 'Imposters syndrome' or even place glass ceilings on yourself, because when you were growing up, you'd never had much opportunity to nurture your dreams and believe in your heart that they were attainable.
Developing a sense of self-assurance and direction is a process, so of course we can't learn all of life's teachings from a young age. We grow into ourselves over time, off the back of our experiences and tribulations. I can relate to feeling like you're being beaten into submission at times, but the optimist in me likes to think that the lumps we take on our way towards figuring things out, ultimately steer us into walking in our truest purpose.
Though we as working-class people may not come from much, to achieve what we are truly capable of, I believe that it's important to adopt the motto that 'We're playing the long game, our start is almost irrelevant, but mentality will be everything'. There are so many of us that show such promise, and I think one of the biggest shames in life is someone never realising their own potential because they felt they didn't belong in certain rooms or weren’t even aware those rooms existed.
